I am Eddie McConnell, and serving as your Sheriff has been my professional ambition.  I am a lifelong resident of Hernando County and I have been connected to the culture and heartbeat of the community particularly through my service in law enforcement.  All of my 34 years in law enforcement have prepared me to serve in this high office.
  • 1 year as a Corrections Officer
  • 23 years as a Hernando County Deputy (School Resource Officer, Detective, Vice and Narcotics, Neighborhood Watch Coordinator, Sergeant, Crime Prevention Practitioner and Trainer)
  • 15 Months with the Crystal River Police Department (Detective, Administrative Support, Neighborhood Watch Coordinator and Trainer)
  • 3 years with Brooksville Police Department (Detective, Administrative Support, Neighborhood Watch Coordinator and Trainer.)
  • 6 years with the Groveland Police Department (Patrol Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Investigations and Operational Duties)
  • Teacher at Nature Coast Technical High School (Teaching "The Criminal Justice System and Principles of Public Service")
  • Certified Florida Department of Law Enforcement Instructor for 28 years
My highest priorities for the Sheriff's Office are:
  • Increase service to the citizens of Hernando
  • Reduce unnecessary spending and refocus budget needs
  • Improve the training of personnel
In my experience working for over two decades in the Hernando County Sheriff's Office and in smaller law enforcement agencies, I have learned to achieve "More with Less".  Administratively proven and citizen oriented, I will serve you well as your next elected Hernando County Sheriff.
